If you share our love for this classic hot sauce from Espinaler, then simply add it to your basket and carry on. Not sure why you need this sauce? Here's the backstory.
Perhaps you've had the great fortune of visiting the coasts of Spain and Portugal. If so, then it's very likely you've seen this sauce on the tables of the restaurants that line the coasts of the region. It was first cooked up in 1952 (by the way that's 50 years into Espinaler's 120-year legacy) by Ventureta Roldós, wife of the third-generation owner of Espinaler. Ventureta's formula combines top-quality vinegar, red pepper, black pepper, and carefully selected spices, all to complement the selections sold at the Taverna Espinaler.
Today Barcelonans splash this sauce on pretty much everything they want to give some extra zip and brightness. With the convenience of our website and the trusty USPS, soon enough we think you'll be splashing this sauce on everything too.
Tasting notes: This is our kind of secret sauce. Bright and tangy, but not too spicy. Simple, refined, and classic. It's Tabasco's much cooler cousin from abroad.
Serve it up: This sauce will not go back in your cupboard. It will quickly become your mouth's best friend. A beloved classic flavor that literally goes with everything, it will add a warm spice to all your favorite seafood dishes without overpowering their natural brininess and flavors. But don't stop there. Dash it on eggs, olives, potato chips...even splashed in vermouth. Pairs well with raw mussels, oysters, and clams. We love it doused on our Smoked Salmon Mac & Cheese, and of course, it is an essential accompaniment to every charcuterie board.
